Priority Three

Reduce structural barriers by leveraging social and human capital, and increase intellectual capital.

The Huon Valley can leverage its social and human capital to reduce structural barriers that hinder the growth of a resilient food system.

Challenges such as high taxation, cumbersome planning permits, onerous insurance requirements, and strict food safety regulations can be collectively navigated through building strong community networks, leveraging the skills and knowledge of residents and promoting collaboration among businesses.

Through business, Council, and community working together to advocate to reduce structural barriers, the Huon Valley can create a more equitable, vibrant and resilient food economy, and build a better future for our residents.

Key Opportunities:

  • Review and streamline regulations (eg. planning, insurance, taxation, food safety, environmental etc)

  • Review and understand structural policies

  • Political advocacy for improvement
